Shanahan, Eileen Getting the right to vote was a huge step into the right direction for women, but they would have a long way to go.

The equal rights movement was an act that was going to be used to fill the gaps of the Fourteenth Amendment. The Fourteenth Amendment had many issues, and the greatest flaw was the discrimination of sexes. The equal rights amendment would fix these flaws by giving equal rights to both men and women.

It would have served as a solution for gender discrimination at a constitutional level. Both men and women deserve to be seen as equal. In most cases, women are looked down upon not only in general, but also at a constitutional level. Women are often counted out, such as, not having the ability to vote, get a good education, and other things that were open to men, but closed to women.

Women were not allowed to take part in the military. So in conclusion, regardless of where you go, equality between the two genders is a never ending battle for women. They fight for the basic human rights while fighting against traditions and social and cultural boundaries. Regardless of where you live, nor what country you go to visit, there is going to be discriminations on women because of gender.

The inequality spreads too many other things too. More than half of the total rape cases go unreported. This is because the victims do not want to shame their families by publicizing the abuse they have gone through and they do not want to face embarrassing cross-questioning in the court.

Unwed mothers are verbally and physically abused in public places. Dowry is another very common problem. If the father is unable to pay, the bride is usually married off anyway but then she is mentally and physically tortured and sometime burnt to death. Female infanticide is another problem.
